The Lady with the Pushchair

To all mums…

It is Tuesday morning… She is walking quickly, pushing her red pushchair. She is dressed in a very simple way; you would hardly notice her. Her face does not tell you much, you cannot really tell the way she feels. She seems to be far away in her thoughts, but as if coming back to reality she stops from time to time in order to check her baby and then continues her way.

It is an ordinary day, the streets are busy with noisy cars and red buses. Everybody is rushing somewhere, some running to catch their bus and some hurrying and sipping their Starbucks coffees at the same time. And the lady with the pushchair is passing by, avoiding this crowd and the cars, afraid that they will wake up her baby.

Who knows what is on her mind? Who knows how difficult her night was yesterday? Who knows how exhausted she feels because of these sleepless nights since her baby was born? Can you see the tears in her eyes, the tears of tiredness, the tears of fear that she is maybe not good enough to take a good care of her baby? She is heading to the park for some fresh air, it is usually where she goes to take some time for herself and to distract her mind…

The lady with the pushchair settles down on a bench, closing her eyes, relieved that her baby is finally sleeping and having good rest. Is not it the most important? A little squirrel comes up to her and looks at her as if saying: « Don’t worry, everything will be ok, your baby will sleep better tonight, now relax and enjoy this beautiful sunny day. »

In a few minutes the baby wakes up and smiles to the lady with the pushchair. This big smile full of love is all she needs to carry on. She suddenly feels new energy in her body and she is more than ready to begin this new day. She stands up, kisses her baby and starts walking…
